Designed by experts, shaped by customers: how Pixaera keeps training modules realistic and relevant

Table of Contents

In high-risk industries where safety can't be compromised, how people are trained is as critical as what they train on. Traditional classroom training often doesn’t cut it: it’s too passive, not personalized, and hard to scale across dynamic sites and rotating crews.

At Pixaera, we’re committed to doing it differently. Every training scenario we build is shaped by real-world challenges and crafted to feel authentic to the frontline. Not just because realism looks good — but because it delivers better results: stronger retention, safer habits, and fewer mistakes when it counts.

Our modules are co-created with subject matter experts and our Customer Advisory Councils, made up of safety leaders from companies like BP, Shell, Chevron, JGC Ferrovial, and others. But we don’t stop at launch — we refine and rework each module based on feedback from crews in the field. Here's what’s been updated:

    Confined Space

Imagine a typical confined space entry scenario — high-risk, high-stakes. We’ve made the entry environment even more realistic by adjusting manhole layouts and requiring an Authorized Gas Tester (AGT) for atmospheric checks — mirroring what teams must actually do on-site. These changes reinforce safety-critical reflexes, not just theory.

    Driving

Picture a busy site parking area — vehicles, workers, constant motion. Our updated scenario now replicates an actual site-specific car park, bringing authenticity to everyday challenges. We’ve replaced unrealistic “taxi-style” driving moments with real-life worksite practices: carparks, company vehicles, and radioed instructions. Crews now respond to vehicle hazards in ways that align with protocol — reinforcing accountability and realism.

    Energy Isolation

Safety isn't negotiable, especially under pressure. Here, realism means reinforcing psychological safety too. Our latest update makes it explicit: any pressure to bypass safety procedures is unacceptable. The scenario drives home the core message — safety over speed, always.

    Hot Work

We’ve shifted this scenario to a pipeline welding site and added flashback arrestors, dropped monitor risks, and a stronger dynamic risk assessment model. These changes allow teams to train on nuanced hazards often overlooked in lecture-based formats.

    Line of Fire

Flagmen communication is now emphasized through voiceovers and better visual cues. For grinding tasks, we’ve reinforced best practices like double eye protection and proper machine guarding — small details that save lives.

    Safe Mechanical Lifting

Visual accuracy matters. Our updated visuals reflect a true construction environment, complete with properly placed signage and clearly marked Safe Working Load (SWL) labels on spreader beams. Added animations illustrate riggers actively controlling taglines, and we've incorporated softening materials to safeguard against load damage. An explicit voiceover now instructs trainees to always ensure containers are clear of personnel before lifting — turning best practices into automatic reflexes.

    Work Authorization

We’ve grounded this scenario in remote infrastructure sites and reinforced on-site permit verification. Trainees now experience what it means to “trust but verify” with every excavation approval — no rubber-stamping here.

    Working at Height

Harness inspection criteria have been expanded to include three harnesses, complete with essential lanyards. We've included exclusion zones and stronger visual barriers to drive home access control and pre-job checks. It’s not just visual — it's habit-building.

    Localized modules (coming soon)

To help global teams train more effectively, we’re translating core safety modules into 15 new languages, bringing the total to over 25: English, Arabic, Chinese, Croatian, French, German, Hindi, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Latin American Spanish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Each module keeps its realism — just in the native language of the frontline teams.

Localized modules will include Confined Space, Driving Safety, Energy Isolation, Line Of Fire, Safe Mechanical Lifting, Work Authorization, Working At Height, Live Electrical, Fire and Explosion, Bypassing Safety Controls, and Hot Work.

How the Pixaera Advisory Councils create safer workplaces

    Customer Advisory Councils (1)

Behind every effective training solution at Pixaera is a dynamic community of industry leaders who collaborate actively and continuously to shape high-impact safety experiences. Our Pixaera Advisory Councils gather executives and safety leaders from top-tier companies, meeting regularly to exchange insights, assess emerging trends, and co-create immersive training modules that target the most pressing safety challenges within their industries.

The Energy Council, including leaders from BP, Shell, ADNOC, Chevron, Fieldcore, and London Energy, guides scenario development to address critical safety challenges across energy sectors, from drilling to emerging energy operations.

The dedicated Construction Council shapes training tailored specifically for construction, EPC, and infrastructure environments, directly tackling unique risks and complexities crews face on-site.

Through these advisory councils, Pixaera doesn't just stay connected to the industry's pulse — we actively shape it. By showing workers what can go wrong — and letting them practice the right response — our modules build memory, confidence, and instinct.  That’s why every update we make is in service of one goal: making sure your team not only knows the right thing to do, but does it.

And with every scenario built alongside safety directors, reviewed by SMEs, and refined by the frontline, we’re not guessing what good looks like. We’re learning it. Living it. And building it into every pixel.
